Commitment to Diversity: The Department of Nursing within the College of Natural Sciences, Mathematics, and Engineering (NSME) at CSU Bakersfield is committed to academic and inclusive excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body.

College Information: The College of Natural Sciences, Mathematics, and Engineering (NSME) houses eight departments including Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Computer & Electrical Engineering/Computer Science, Geological Sciences, Mathematics, Nursing, Physics and Engineering, and Public Health. NSME prepares students to become skilled professionals and leaders in STEM and healthcare through transformative degree programs, cutting-edge research, personalized education and hands-on experiences provided by caring, dedicated faculty and staff. The College is committed to serving the local community, being leaders in innovation, applying knowledge to real-world situations, and providing a supportive learning environment where our students thrive and grow.

Department Information: The CSU Bakersfield (CSUB) Department of Nursing offers four nursing programs: the Traditional BSN, RN-BSN, Doctor of Nursing Practice–Family Nurse Practitioner (DNP-FNP), and Master of Science in Nursing to Doctor of Nursing Practice (MSN-DNP) programs.

Admissions standards and ranking criteria for each program are established by the Undergraduate or Graduate Program Committee, and cohorts are composed of the highest-ranking candidates. Graduates of the Traditional BSN and RN-BSN programs provide a strong pool of applicants for admission to the DNP programs. In addition, the former MSN-FNP program contributed to the preparation of advanced practice nurses, further strengthening the department’s legacy of graduate-level workforce development.

The CSUB BSN programs are approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) and accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The DNP program is approved by the university and is currently seeking initial CCNE accreditation, with an accreditation review anticipated in Fall 2026.
