TEMPORARY END DATE: This position is temporary and ends on or before December 31, 2025. Any continuation beyond December 31, 2025 is contingent upon satisfactory performance and available funding.

FT/PT: Full-time   

PAY PLAN: 12-month

ANTICIPATED HIRING RANGE: Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $5,540 per month.

CSU CLASSIFICATION SALARY RANGE: $5,540 - $7,893

PAY BASIS: Monthly

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLICANT:

POSITION PURPOSE: Reporting directly to the Vice President, People & Culture, the Title IX Victim’s Advocate provides comprehensive trauma-informed support, advocacy, and resources to persons who have experienced sexual misconduct, sexual violence, dating/domestic violence, stalking, or other forms of harassment or discrimination. This role is critical to providing comprehensive support services. The role requires a proactive approach in advocacy, crisis intervention, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Advocacy & Support

  1. Provide confidential, trauma-informed support to individuals who have experienced any form of sexual misconduct, dating/domestic violence, stalking, discrimination or harassment by offering empathetic listening and validation of experiences, using trauma-informed care principles to ensure a safe and supportive environment, and maintaining confidentiality and respecting the privacy of individuals seeking support.
  2. Adhere to legal reporting requirements by understanding federal, state, and campus reporting obligations. Ensure accurate and timely reporting of incidents as required by law.
  3. Assist individuals in understanding and accessing campus and community resources, including medical, mental health, legal, and academic support. Advocate for the survivor's needs and preferences in all communications.
  4. Provide immediate crisis intervention and emotional support. Assist in safety planning, including obtaining protective orders or implementing campus safety measures such as No-Contact Directives.
  5. Conduct thorough assessments to identify the immediate and long-term needs of individuals. Continuously monitor and adjust support plans to ensure ongoing needs are met.

Case Management

  1. Facilitate intake interviews and carefully document disclosed information, ensuring confidentiality.
  2. Maintain detailed, accurate, and confidential records of interactions and services provided.
  3. Facilitate communication between survivors and campus departments to ensure accommodations and support services are effectively implemented.

Collaboration, Education & Outreach

  1. Assist in the development and delivery of prevention education and awareness programs for the campus community on topics related to sexual violence, healthy relationships, and bystander intervention.
  2. Collaborate with campus partners to promote advocacy services and integrate awareness efforts into campus culture.
  3. Provide cross-training to campus partners and partner agencies.
  4. Work closely with departments such as Title IX-DHR, Counseling, University Police, Health Center, Housing, and Student Affairs to advocate and ensure a coordinated response to reports of violence and harassment.
  5. Cultivate partnerships with local community organizations to enhance resource availability and improve referral networks.
  6. Support filing applications with relevant support organizations.
  7. Enhance the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) through assessment, implementation, and evaluation.
  8. Coordinate and monitor referrals across agency programs, ensuring individuals receive timely and appropriate support.

Compliance & Reporting

  1. Stay informed of federal, state, and local laws, as well as institutional policies, related to Title IX, Clery Act, and violence prevention.
  2. Participate in training and professional development to remain current on best practices for supporting survivors.
  3. Provide data and reports as needed for compliance purposes, ensuring confidentiality and anonymity.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE – Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related and three (3) years of progressively responsible professional student services work. A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.

LICENSES –

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
  • Certification by the state of California as a Sexual Assault Counselor advocate.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES (SKA’s) –              

  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed care principles and practices.
  • Excellent active listen skills, interpersonal and communication skills, with a commitment to cultural humility and inclusivity, that acknowledges ethnic difference, sexual orientation, abilities, and religious diversity.
  • Ability to conduct intake interviews and crisis intervention.
  • Ability to facilitate communication between survivors and campus departments.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in complex and sensitive situations.
  • In depth knowledge of Title IX, Clery Act, and related legal frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining cooperative working relationships across disciplines.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism.
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems.
  • Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere in the University with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds.
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Ability to interpret, communicate and apply policies and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Excellent computer skills and competence with a variety of computer applications including word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, on-line systems, Internet as well as online calendaring and email.
  • Working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University infrastructure.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Public Health, or related field.
  • Experience providing direct advocacy or trauma informed support services to survivors of sexual violence or harassment.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish.
  • Experience working in a college or university setting.
  • Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment possessing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: LIGHT WORK – involves mainly sitting, up to 25% standing or walking; lifting medium weight objects limited to 25 pounds.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

SCREENING: Only those applicants possessing experience most directly related to the immediate needs of the office will be invited to appear before a Qualifications Appraisal Board for the purpose of appraising training, experience, and interest in the position.

BACKGROUND CHECK: Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information.
